Lose Weight Over The Holidays - Is It Even Possible?
Written by Dorothy Palmer
women-eating-holiday
According to national statistics, the average weight gain over the holidays is 7 pounds. We all deal with it and it seems we are never able to lose it all after the holidays are over so it is weight we may carry with us for a lifetime. Most of us accept it as a given but, does it have to be this way? Is it even possible to not gain weight if we participate in the Yuletide events?

Yes! It is possible to not gain weight over the holidays. It is even possible to lose a pound or two if you address the most important temptations... hunger and cravings. How can we not give in to those delectable Christmas cookies? That homemade fudge your co-worker brought to work? The food gift-basket that came in the mail? Your other favorite foods that you associate with Christmas? The answer is that you don't have to rely on will-power this year or ever again. No one has to be superhuman. If you do it right, it could actually be pretty easy to not gain weight this season. If you have something that eliminates hunger and cravings you can enjoy your holiday favorites without overdoing it and worrying about weight gain.

There are lots of ideas for foods or products that curb hunger. My choice in products eliminates both hunger and cravings and it is one of the cookie diets. A cookie diet is perfect for helping you control your eating during the holidays. The cookies eliminate hunger and cravings so they help you stay in control of your eating. The key is to actually eat the cookies! Start each day with a couple and it will set the tone for the rest of the day. Have one or two about an hour before you go to that holiday party and you won't graze the food table. Those two cookies will go a long way in dissuading you from having that third piece of fudge or the second bowl of cheese dip! Plus, the first few bites of anything are always the most enjoyable. With the cookies satisfying hunger and cravings you will be able to take 2 or 3 bites, enjoy the flavor, and then be able to stop before you actually force the rest of it down.

Be careful though. Not all cookie diets are created equal. Do your homework and make sure you choose the best one for you. One is so high in carbs and sugar that it will actually make you hungry and crave more carbs about 30 minutes after you eat it. Three others are low enough in carbs but only one of the three effective brands is the lowest and contains no sugar. It happens also to be the least expensive!

So enjoy the holidays without feeling guilty, and take part in all the social events going on. Don't feel left out! You have a plan and a powerful tool. Just two specially formulated cookies will eliminate hunger and cravings from the picture and temper the inevitable overindulgence temptations.

Watch What You Eat Away From Home
Written by Toyota Landy

It is very easy to let go of more than a few rules or code of conduct once we leave home or get to a place we are basically strangers. This also applied to what we eat especially during vacations or trips. We may find it easier to keep the calories at bay when we are at home or our home environment but we might just not be too strong to let that guard stay up if we are on a trip or go on vacation. It is therefore important that we maintain proper and healthy eating habits when on vacation so that we don't end up undoing all the good work before getting back home.

Stay with healthy snacks during your holidays. This is one thing that people do not give enough attention to because they focus on the meal and then binge on unhealthy snacks all through the day.
If you do not know how to go about getting them where you are vacationing, taking some with you won't be a bad idea.

Another thing the healthy snacks do is to keep you on your toes when you want to take a serious meal because you are already mentally alert and disciplined to continue to eat correctly. But another thing it does is that you can now loosen up a bit when you want to have a meal because you would be conscious not to really go gaga.

Vacation and restaurants go hand in hand. Restaurants unfortunately are not particularly that health conscious. They are in fact ready to spoil you if you let them and have enough in your wallet to go along with them. You may also adopt the measure of sharing your meal with someone. It would definitely reduce your intake by half.

The drinks you consume something that should be watched with care. Alcohol could do more to push your calorie intake than most meals. A margarita has hundreds of calories and downing a few glasses could mean a couple of thousands of in less than thirty minutes.

A way of regulating your intake of cocktails is by having an on and off day where you decide not to take any for one day and put a number on the intake for the next day.

Then you can also go for a light beer rather than the cocktail and there is nothing like consciously drinking water everyday on your vacation. This comes with so many benefits and should be maintained even religiously.

Don't binge on desserts! You can do what we suggested with your meals by deliberately taking only half. It would help keep you in check so that you don't over indulge yourself. And even though we talked about restaurants not being particular about serving health conscious meals we were talking about restaurants that provide evening dinners. But fast food restaurants should be avoided because that is one area where nothing you eat will help you unless you go green. The thing with them is that they are easily the most recognizable feature you would see that is from home where you go vacationing. But if you avoid them at home, then you must make sure you don't get so homesick as to pay them a visit or else you might just end up undoing all the good work you had been building up at home.

To avoid falling into temptation, planning ahead of time is very important. If it's a road trip then pack enough health food from home and store them properly. But if you are using air travel, once you get to your destination search out a fruit store or get packaged salads and yogurt.

The whole idea is to stay focused and disciplines when you are away from home just as you would when you are around your home environment. And handling those things you take in regularly like snacks and making sure they are healthy would give you enough leg room to eat with a bit more variety when you come to your normal meals.

Some actually give up on the whole program altogether when they get back and find out that they have added all the weight to thought they had lost before coming going for their vacation in the first place and avoiding this is important.

Vitamin F - Fatty Acids
Written by Sandy Sachs

The lack of vitamin F could lead to the development of eczema. The lack of Vitamin F could result in the damage to your kidney and liver. It could also result in your developing heart trouble.

Vitamin F is another name used when mentioning the essential fatty acids or EFA. It consist of the fatty acids: linoleic or LA and alpha-linoleic acid or LNA. LA is the most complete fatty acid of the two. LA and LNA are also the two basic types of EFA. Omega 3 and omega 6 contain both LA and gamma-linoleic acid. These are essential fatty acids or EFA since our body is unable to produce them on its own]. It is also responsible for repairing and making new tissues in our body.

In the absence of fatty acids, our cells would not be as healthy, our hormones could get out of control and our immune system may not work properly making us an easy prey to contact many illnesses. Our cholesterol levels could get out of control. Skin tissues could get dry and you could appear older. You hair could get dull, without any shine. You could also get bald.

Eczema is a disease that could be caused by a lack of vitamin F. The lack of Vitamin F could result in the damage to your kidney and liver. It could also result in your developing heart trouble.

The tear ducts could also dry up due to the lack of vitamin F, resulting in the dryness and infection in the eyes. Blood pressure could also rise and you could develop blood clots which will lead to heart disease. A lack of energy and depression could set in.

It seems that the addition of vitamin F is very important to your diet. Getting this fatty acid into your diet could be your life saver, even though you would not know it. Addition of the fatty acids may slow down the development of an impending disease. Vitamin F will help heal your skin, and enable your hair to grow.

When you decide to add vitamin F or the fatty acids omega 3 and omega 6 to your diet, also adding vitamins B3, B6, C and vitamin D are good complimenting vitamins . It is advisable that you check your vitamins to ensure that you are also getting zinc, magnesium and selenium. The recommended dietary allowance or RDA can be lower than what is needed but over taking can bring bad results. 1 to 2 percent of your total calories a day of fatty acids should be sufficient.

If you are overweight and suffer from some some of the symptoms of vitamin F deficiency such as dry eyes, frequent inflammation, eczema, cracking nails and skin, dandruff, then you may need more than the RDA.

Be aware that these vitamins, the omega's and vitamin F are sensitive to light and heat. Be sure to store them out of the light at home. They should be stored in a dark bottle.

Some of the foods that provide vitamin F or the fatty acids are: flax seeds, grape seeds, walnuts, soy bean oil, and avocados. They are also present in cold water oily fish such as salmon, tuna, halibut, mackerel and trout. By cooking with flax seed oil, canola oil or walnut oil, quite a few people found their cholesterol levels went down . The flavours these essential oils provide to the food is also great. Eating 2 servings of baked salmon, or some broiled trout every day are very good sources. Tuna also contains the fatty acids but not as much as salmon or trout.

Remember, it's never too late to start your way towards a healthier life by eating a diet rich in the foods your bodies require. If you are on medications or under the care of a doctor already, be sure to speak to your doctor before adding any medications to your regime, even if they are said to benefit your over all health. Combining them with medications you are already taking could cause adverse reactions.

If you are still healthy, why not get started today on the road to better health for life.
